THE CYPRUS NATIONAL COORDINATOR FOR UN WORLD SPACE WEEK, MR. GEORGE TROULLIAS.

WIIL BE PRESENT IN ALL EVENTS, SHARING THE AWARENESS RELATED TO THE GLOBAL INITIATIVE

FOR THE UNITED NATIONS WORLD SPACE WEEK

AND TALKING ABOUT "LIVING IN SPACE".

Each year, the World Space Week Association (WSWA) selects a theme for the upcoming World Space Week (WSW) to provide a focus of the activities and events that take a place throughout the world, during 4-10 October.

Rocket Revolution – World Space Week 2026 Theme

Each year, World Space Week Association (WSWA) selects a theme that reflects a defining moment in humanity's relationship with space. For World Space Week 2026, celebrated globally from October 4 to 10, the theme is "Rocket Revolution."

Rocket Revolution focuses on the rapid transformation of space launch. Once limited to a small number of government programs, access to space is now expanding through commercial launch providers, reusable rockets, university teams, startups, and new national space actors. This shift is changing who can reach space, how often launches happen, and what space is used for.

Engaging Activities: Learning and Leading

Event organizers worldwide are encouraged to integrate the theme “Rocket Revolution” into their World Space Week events. Activities may range from educational workshops and interactive sessions to panel discussions and collaborative projects, all aimed at fostering innovative environmental solutions.

Join the Journey: Celebrate World Space Week

WSWA extends an open invitation for worldwide involvement in World Space Week 2026. Through organizing events, participating in educational programs, donating to the Association or spreading awareness, each person can play a part in enhancing our collective understanding of the crucial role space technology plays in the fight against climate change. Let’s unite to make WSW 2026 a landmark event in our ongoing journey towards living in space.

WSW event organizers are encouraged to incorporate the theme and poster into their activities and promotional materials. To see the history of World Space Week themes, please click here.

What is World Space Week?

World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. These dates commemorate two events:

  • October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration
  • October 10, 1967: The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activites of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.

Where and how is World Space Week celebrated?

World Space Week consists of space education and outreach events held by space agencies, aerospace companies, schools, planetaria, museums, and astronomy clubs around the world in a common timeframe. These synchronized space events attract greater public and media attention. World Space Week 2025 achieved record scale:

  • Up to 50,000 events
  • Events in 102 nations

World Space Week is coordinated by the United Nations with the support of the World Space Week Association (WSWA). The WSWA leads a global team of National Coordinators, who promote the celebration of World Space Week within their own countries.
