Geology and Fossils

Cyprus Geology and Fossils

This exhibition is dedicated to the natural history of Cyprus.

It has an impressive collection of rocks, minerals and fossils. Accurately chosen exhibits brightly demonstrate different phases of geological formation of the Island and evolution of its inhabitants since the time when Cyprus arose from sea depths. They tell an interesting story of the life on land and water.

Some exhibits were brought from abroad to create the whole picture of life evolution on the island in the contest of the whole planet Earth.

Cyprus Geological Evolution

Dinosaurs

Dinosaur fossilized skulls, teeth and claws as well as other jurassic insects are on display. Enjouy them and learn why we have not discovered any dinosaur remians in Cyprus.

Space food is a type of food product created and processed for consumption by astronauts during missions to outer space.

Meteorites

Some of our rock exhibits arrived to Earth from space.

Meteorites that fall to Earth represent some of the original, diverse materials that formed planets billions of years ago. By studying meteorites we can learn about early conditions and processes in the solar system’s history. These include the age and composition of different planetary building blocks, the temperatures achieved at the surfaces and interiors of asteroids, and the degree to which materials were shocked by impacts in the past.

Tektites

Tektites are small, pebble-like glassy objects of Earth material that have been melted by meteorite impact, splashed up into our atmosphere, and fallen to Earth again under gravity.

Experience "Curiosity"

NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission, "Curiosity" is the largest and most capable rover ever sent to Mars. Check our model and its Martian habitat and learn about its mission.

Antikythera Mechanism

Explore the reconstructed model of the unique, worldwide famous Antikythera Mechanism.

The Antikythera mechanism is an Ancient Greek hand-powered orrery (model of the Solar System), described as the oldest known example of an analogue computer used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses decades in advance. It could also be used to track the four-year cycle of athletic games which was similar to an Olympiad, the cycle of the ancient Olympic Games.

Radio Telescope

Learn about our radio telescope device which connects to the antenna to listen to the Solar and Jovian bursts.
