Since 2008 KITION PLANETARIUM & OBSERVATORY has offered Science Café sessions
for all visitors to share their passion for science and astronomy.
From the year 2021 we are holding Science Café meetings online, as well.
Since January 2021, visitors from different parts of the world participated in our online sessions,
discussing observations, latest news in astronomy and sharing their achievements.
Full and equal access and participation for women and girls in science Science and gender equality
are both vital for the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Over the past decades, the global community has made a lot of effort in inspiring and engaging women and girls in science.
Yet women and girls continue to be excluded from participating fully in science.
An International Astronomical Union (IAU) Outreach Global Project
Overview: The Women and Girls in Astronomy project recognises the role of women in advancing science and encourages girls
to consider careers in astronomy. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) strongly encourages activities throughout the year,
with a particular focus between two International Days adopted by the United Nations:
the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February and International Women’s Day on 8 March,
and throughout the year.

ELEONORA LYDIA KAISER (BIOGRAPHY)

Eleonora Lydia Kaiser participated as an Analogue Astronaut at the
LunAres Research Station and at the Analog Astronaut Training Center.
At the LunAres Research Station, the mission named "EIRENE" consisted of a two-week simulation at the far side of the Moon.
In this mission Eleonora was assigned the role of the Data and Communication Officer.
She worked on projects concerning Aeroponics and Hydroponics,
Manufacturing and Assembly of a Solar Panel Structure, and Extra-Vehicular Activities.
At the Analog Astronaut Training Center she was assigned as the mission's Astrobiologist.
This mission was named "YURIJA" to honour cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
The main experiment of the mission was “Privacy in Space”.
The goal was in a week to design, develop and assess if the implementation of a privacy shelter within the sleeping environment
will reduce overall physiological and psychological stress parameters of crew members during a mission.
Eleonora acquired her BSc in Physics from the Northumbria University of Newcastle (UK)
and her MSc in Astrophysics from Glasgow University (UK).
Eleonora's research interest involves the importance of black holes and their role in the Universe.
Her Master's degree thesis was about the impact of photometric redshift errors on the viability of future “dark sirens” for cosmology.
Free entrance.
