Since 2008 KITION PLANETARIUM & OBSERVATORY has offered Science Café sessions

for all visitors to share their passion for science and astronomy.

From the year 2021 we are holding Science Café meetings online, as well.

Since January 2021, visitors from different parts of the world participated in our online sessions,

discussing observations, latest news in astronomy and sharing their achievements.

The story of space telescopes started in 1968 when for a few months a satellite built in Dnepropetrovsk (the USSR),

carried a few telescopes which observed hot stars in ultraviolet and X-rays range.

Later the USA joined the idea to have space telescopes too. Now there are a lot of astronomical observatories in space.

Among them the most tremendous and the most powerful is James Webb Space Telescope,

which had been just recently launched. The Science café meeting on 26 July will be dedicated to this instrument.

A space scientist Katie Demetriou will tell in details about this huge breakthrough in technology and astronomy.

История космических телескопов началась в 1968 году, когда в течение нескольких месяцев на спутнике,

построенном в Днепропетровске (СССР), с помощью нескольких телескопов наблюдали горячие звезды

в ультрафиолетовом и рентгеновском диапазонах. Позже к идее иметь космический телескоп присоединились и США.

Сейчас в космосе очень много астрономических обсерваторий. Среди них самым грандиозным и самым зорким является

только что запущенный космический телескоп Джеймса Уэбба. Этому инструменту и будет посвящена встреча научного кафе 26 июля.

Подробно об этом огромном прорыве в технологиях и астрономии расскажет специалист по наукам космоса Екатерина Деметриу.
