The "Modern Space Era" refers to the current and evolving phase of space exploration and utilization,
characterized by increased private sector involvement, reduced launch costs,
and a broader range of space activities. This era sees a rise in space tourism,
commercial satellite constellations, and exploration of extraterrestrial resources.
It also highlights the need for robust international governance to ensure responsible and sustainable space behavior.
International Asteroid Day, on June 30, is to commemorate the Tunguska impact,
also known as the Tunguska event which occured in 1908.
On that day a large explosion occurred in the sky over the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Siberia, Russia.
It destroyed about 2,000 square kilometers of the forest in the area, flattening about 80 million trees.
It is thought that an asteroid or a comet was responsible for the blast.
The Tunguska event is considered to be the largest asteroid impact on Earth in recorded history.
All meetings of Science Café sessions are free of charge and everyone can join.
